Asset group

The bundle of headlines, images and videos a Performance Max campaign runs from.

An asset group is the unit inside a Performance Max campaign: one set of headlines, descriptions, images, logos and videos, plus the audience signal that tells Google who to start with. A campaign can have several, one per product line or theme. Because Performance Max reports so little else, the asset group is where the money can actually be seen (each one has its own cost and conversions in the report), and it is the smallest thing that can be paused. An asset group that has spent several times the account's cost per conversion with nothing to show is the Performance Max leak, and pausing it is as precise as the fix gets; the campaign's other groups keep running.
